Excerpts from Sep. 16 and 23

September 16, 2013
The Staten concert was in a church. That one wasn't that special, so don't worry about that one haha.  The concert [in Jamaica, Queens] went AMAZING. I was so happy. I did You Raise Me Up. I'm going to brag a little bit about it haha. We did the concerts 2x, one after the other, and the workers who'd heard it the first time all stopped what they were doing and came out and started recording me on their phones. Later I got comments on how I was the only one they've ever heard do it as well as Josh Groban and they know because they listen to/record music. They told me that I need to continue. That made me really happy. All the musical numbers were truly amazing, and I was by far not the best.
After the concert on the way back home, we got stopped by a Muslim man who asked us if we were Mormons and then asked us to tell him what we believed. After a few minutes he asked us if we could come to the religious school he taught at and talk with the faculty. Erickson, Sis Blosil, Sis Franklin, and I went and had a truly amazing time. We had a wonderful discussion where they taught us what Muslims believe and we taught what Mormons believe. It was not a conversation where either side was trying to convince or convert the other. Just simple informing. It was amazing. We learned so much and many misconceptions were cleared up on both ends. They gave each of us our own Qur'an and we gave them a BofM. It was so exciting and wonderful. We ended up being there for 4 hours. What's crazy is that if things hadn't happened the exact way they did, we would never have seen this guy. It was awesome. It is really interesting how similar and completely different the Muslim faith is compared to the LDS faith. I would say it is closer than any other religion to the LDS faith.
Things in the ward are going well. We LOVE our new bishop. Due to suggestion from the ZLs and comments from the Aps, we thought Adams and I were going to both be out, but that wasn't the case. I'm staying and Adams is out. So we'll see who my new comp is.
That's all I got. I love you and miss you! I really really miss Kye. Send me tangible pictures of him please haha.

Well things are ok here. My new comp is Elder Hellewell. It could be a long transfer. He's from Lindon, went to PG. His cousin is actually one of my friends from high school. So that's cool.
We had a really cool experience where we went and talked to a guy on a bench about English class and when we were done, I could tell something was wrong, so I asked if we could help him in any way. Then we sat down, and he told us all that had happened. It was really nice to be able to be of help to someone. Especially a total stranger who felt like he had no one. If things had not happened the EXACT way they did, we would never have run into him. So that was the cool experience of the week.
I'm so proud of you guys for talking at the Interfaith thing. That's so awesome. I'm excited to read what you guys said. Also to see the interview. I'm interesting to know who all saw it and made the connection haha. I do find it really interesting and great that King played it off so coolly.
I had known about the DC shooting, but had known that it wasn't the same place that Sarah works in and that other areas were safe, so I wasn't too worried.
It's finally getting cooler here. I'm sick of sweating. I like the winter so much better than the summer here.

Excerpts from Aug. 26 to Sep. 9

August 26, 2013
I had no idea they were building a new Westmore. Weird. I've been gone for a year which is weird to think about because I really doesn't feel that long, but yet it does feel like forever. It's also weird to think that there are other things there that have changed that would be normal for you but would be crazy for me.
I'm having fun. We recently got a new bishopric and we're really happy/excited.
It's really cool, there is a Sister in my district that studied opera at BYUI and is amazing, so we sing together and it's really really nice haha. We're actually singing in a mall in a place called Jamaica, Queens for a concert. We each are doing 2-3 solos and then the choir is doing other numbers. I'm excited. It won't be too big, I'm just excited for the chance to sing. Still no idea what I'm going to do for it though.
Anyway, my plantar fascia is fine. It hasn't been hurting too much. Only occasionally.

September 2, 2013
We don’t email at a library now, so I can email today even though it is a holiday.  We're starting English classes this week. I'm happy, nearly 3 months without it. I miss it.

September 9, 2013
I didn't even realize that __ was old enough to be in college, but I guess she is. What's weird is that all the people who were in high school with me have now graduated.  I now know no one that goes to MV.  Or let me rephrase that, there now isn't anyone there I actually went to the same school at the same time. Weird.
Transfers are next week.  This week is going to be crazy.  I have a rehearsal for the mall concert Thursday, rehearsal for a different concert in Staten Wednesday, the actual Staten concert Friday, and the mall concert Saturday. Then Saturday night we have transfer calls which tell us if we stay or go.
I'm also excited because on Sept 11 they always light up the freedom tower, and it is a magnificent sight. There is a park with one of the greatest views in NY of Manhattan and I'm going to be in the area for the rehearsal so I'll get to see it.
English classes have been great so far. We've only had 2 so far, and there haven't been as many people as I have had in other areas, but more members have come to this than in any of my other areas. So I'm really happy about that.  The ward is good. Things are getting done. It's nice.
I saw a dog that was Kye, but the regular size instead of a toy (as in type of breed.) Exact same color, markings, and bobbed tail. It made me miss Kye SO MUCH!!!!  I obviously miss you too, but I get to “talk” to you, so you know I love you haha.
This past week I went to the temple for my year mark. It was a really nice trip. I got to see everyone who was in my MTC district. It was a nice little reunion. Dad, have you seen the new video?  I like it a LOT more.  There's actual emotion. So much better. And it actually makes visual references to science in a way of saying "God works through science." I really enjoyed it.
Found out we'll be getting Facebook/social media next month. I'm not a fan, but we'll see. I plan on sticking to tumblr for my "proselyting" and staying away from fb, because I don't want to have to deal with "cleaning up" my profile. Still not sure what all is going to happen with that or how it will work. Oh well. It'll be interesting.
Well I hope everything is good. Good luck with school.
